Organisational leadership series

A three-part series offering a space for leaders and managers from across the UICC membership to learn and discuss about practical steps to navigate and sustain organisational growth.

Overview

During UICC’s work to strengthen organisational and management practices across its membership, a set of challenges has emerged as a common stumbling block shared by many cancer organisations attempting to transition from an early stage of development to more established grounding.

From weak governance structures and overly centralised decision-making, to ill-defined strategies and an heavy reliance on volunteers, the issues often reflected the normal ‘pains’ of organisational growth. They also pose stubborn challenges for over-stretched organisations, as their compound effects often frustrate the ability to secure funding and talent, and undermine the capacity for long-term planning.

Through this three-part series, UICC aims to offer a safe space for leaders and managers from across the UICC membership to step away from day-to-day operational pressures, reflect with peers on shared organisational challenges, and identify the practical steps that can help navigate and sustain organisational growth.  

Hosted in partnership with Stone Soup Consulting, a network of organisational consultants that has collaborated with UICC on its organisational leadership offer over the past few years, the sessions will combine expert presentations with opportunities for peer-learning.

Target audience

Exclusive to UICC members, this series is for anyone interested in learning and discussing with peers about the organisational and management issues impacting an organisation's capacity to grow and deliver its mission. It is particularly beneficial for those with leadership or management responsibilities in key organisational domains (e.g. governance, executive management, programmes, communications, fundraising, or HR) and relevant for cancer civil society organisations at an earlier stage of development.

For those interested in continuing the conversations on these topics as part of a peer-group, the series is complemented by an organisational strengthening community of practice, hosted in a private discussion room on UICC Connect.
