UICC launches the 2019 call for Technical Fellowships

The 2019 call for applications for the Technical Fellowships and the Bourses pour l’Afrique Francophone opened on 31st January 2019. UICC welcomes applications by cancer professionals, researchers or health workers wishing to learn new skills across all areas of cancer control: public health, epidemiology, implementation and translational research, cancer prevention and early detection, treatment, cancer survivorship, palliative care and psychosocial support. We have updated the application process so candidates working in the public health sector are able to apply with greater ease. CEO programme: Regional 'Leadership in Action' meetings in Singapore and Oman

As part of UICC's CEO programme, regional 'Leadership in Action' meetings for the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East & North Africa regions will be taking place respectively on 27 March, Singapore, and 1-3 April, Oman. These 'Leadership in Action' meetings are opportunities for senior executives of member organisations to come together in their regions to discuss common challenges and opportunities, and share expertise and best practices. These are exclusive, free-of-charge platforms for CEO-level executives of member organisations to build regional networks for change. Due to high demand, priority is given to Full members. The SPARC Metastatic Breast Cancer Challenge will expand in 2019-2020 with grants opportunities for a further 10 cancer organisations worldwide

UICC and Pfizer Inc. have announced the third round of the SPARC Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) Challenge, their pioneering grants initiative designed to support the implementation of projects worldwide that address the specific needs of patients with metastatic breast cancer in local communities – many of which extend beyond treatment. A total of US$275,000 in funding will be awarded to 10 new organisations, bringing the SPARC awardees network to 50 cancer organisations from all across the world with a total funding of US$1,565,000. As part of this new round, five grantees from Round 2 of the SPARC MBC Challenge will receive additional funding to continue their projects. The call for proposal will be opened from the 28th February till the 15th April.

17 Country Champions join the national activation of Treatment for All

On World Cancer Day, 2019, 17 new Country Champions joined Treatment for All to shape and deliver strong national advocacy campaigns calling for improved access to cancer services. Country Champions will receive guidance and targeted, technical support to enable them to unite with national-level civil society in their country, jointly identify key advocacy priorities in line with the global Treatment for All advocacy campaign, and work collaboratively with government towards addressing inequities in their contexts and countries. More broadly, a Treatment for All toolkit will become available for all UICC members later this year to support engagement with other civil society organisations and their governments, and a second call for Country Champions will open in October of this year.
