The Virtual Dialogue, 'Navigating Gavi: Supporting CSOs in advancing access to HPV vaccination' was an information session for civil society organisations on Gavi, it’s commitment to HPV vaccination and how civil society organisations (CSOs) can be engaged and supported through its work to support the introduction and scale-up of HPV vaccination.

Participants gained insights into Gavi’s operating model, how countries can access Gavi support, the role of CSOs in Gavi, as well as opportunities for engagement and support. The Virtual Dialogue showcased some country examples, and provide opportunities for Q&A.

This Virtual Dialogue was delivered in response to needs raised by UICC members as part of a landscaping study on the engagement of civil society organisations in the introduction and scale-up of HPV vaccination. This study, which included a literature review, a survey, and 50 key informant interviews, highlighted the critical role of CSOs in advancing access to HPV vaccination, notably in three key domains – advocacy, awareness raising and community mobilisation. In some cases, CSOs were also responsible for direct delivery of the vaccine. Whilst there is substantial diversity in terms of cancer CSOs, the report also highlighted several key challenges and needs of CSOs that must be addressed in order for them to be able to optimally fulfil their capacity and invaluable role in increasing access. These needs included amongst others, grants and technical assistance, and knowledge for advocacy, with specific reference to the need for increased awareness of global opportunities.

The Virtual Dialogue is supported by UICC cervical cancer partners.
