Global Week for Action: How can you engage as a civil society organisation?

The Global Week for Action on NCDs, organised by the NCD Alliance, will take place from 15-22 October 2024. This year's campaign focuses on leadership and the use of social media to drive action.

The Global Week for Action on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) is an initiative by the NCD Alliance, which brings together civil society organisations, health advocates, and stakeholders to raise awareness and mobilise efforts to combat the growing burden of NCDs, including cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.

The 2024 campaign urges global leaders to take bold actions to address the burden of NCDs, with a focus on leadership. A guide for civil society organisations is now available in English, French, and Spanish. This resource provides practical suggestions for engagement during the campaign.

Civil society organisations are encouraged to engage in various ways. Social media can be used to call on key stakeholders to #LeadOnNCDs and #ActOnNCDs. Pre-composed social media messages and editable banners are available on the campaign's Post Me page.

Activities organised within the campaign can be added to the Global Map of Impact on the campaign website. Governments and policy-makers are urged to take the lead on NCDs, using the campaign messages to drive action.

High-level influencers, including health advocates, celebrities, thought leaders, well-known health professionals, and heads of governments, are encouraged to spotlight NCDs during the campaign and beyond.

The Global Week for Action on NCDs coincides with the 4th Global NCD Alliance Forum in Kigali, Rwanda. The forum will provide a platform for sharing successful interventions in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care, with a focus on integrated approaches to tackle NCDs and improve global health outcomes.

NCDs will be a central theme in the opening remarks at UICC’s World Cancer Congress 2024, taking place from 17-19 September in Geneva, Switzerland, and the event features several key sessions focused on non-communicable diseases (NCDs). These will explore the latest successful cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care interventions, emphasising the importance of integrated approaches to tackle NCDs and improve global health outcomes.
