Celebrating the outstanding work of individuals whose efforts have contributed to cancer care and control

Building on the success of the UICC member awards launched at the 2018 World Cancer Congress, UICC has launched its inaugural Outstanding Contribution to Cancer Control Award at the 2019 World Cancer Leaders' Summit in Nur-sultan, Kazakhstan. This distinction recognises and celebrates the outstanding work of individuals whose efforts have contributed to advancing cancer care and control.

At a dedicated ceremony at the Opera House in Nur-sultan on 15 October, HRH Princess Dina Mired, President of UICC, announced HE Dr Tabaré Vázquez, President of Uruguay, as the 2019 winner. The award was received by President Vázquez's son, Alvaro Vázquez, a medical oncologist, H.E. Dr Jorge Basso, Minister of Public Health of Uruguay, and H.E. Mr Rodolfo Nin Novoa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay.

The other two finalists for the award, Prof. Ian Hector Frazer, internationally renowned medical doctor and researcher in the field of immunology, and H.E.
