News 09 May 2016 Job Description - Communications and Marketing Intern JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Communications and Marketing Intern Reports to: Communications and Marketing Specialist The Union for International Cancer Control is looking for a Communications and Marketing Intern as a temporary addition to their Communications team. The duration of the internship will be from 1 July 2016 to 31 December 2016. ABOUT THE UNION FOR INTERNATIONAL CANCER CONTROL (UICC) The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) unites the cancer community to reduce the global cancer burden, to promote greater equity, and to integrate cancer control into the world health and development agenda. UICC is the largest cancer-fighting organisation of its kind, with over 900 member organisations across 155 countries representing the world's major cancer societies, ministries of health, research institutes, treatment centres and patient groups. UICC is dedicated to working with world leaders to increase their support for cancer control measures, and encourage accountability for the cancer commitments made in the UN Political Declaration on non-communicable diseases (NCDs). UICC uses key convening opportunities like the World Cancer Leaders' Summit, World Cancer Congress and World Cancer Day for continued focus on: Developing specific time-bound targets and indicators to measure the national implementation of policies and approaches to prevent and control cancer Raising the priority accorded to cancer in the global health and development agenda Promoting a global response to cancer UICC and its multisectoral partners are committed to encouraging governments to look towards the implementation and scale-up of quality and sustainable programmes that address the global burden of cancer and other NCDs. UICC is also a founding member of the NCD Alliance, a global civil society network that now represents almost 2,000 organisations in 170 countries. Responsibilities will include, but are not necessarily limited to: Help manage World Cancer Day and the communications team inboxes on a daily basis (reply to emails, follow-up, etc.) Call UICC members to know what their plans are for World Cancer Day Track/record all calls in our CRM software and update the members contact details when needed Add and manage the events and activities on the Map of Impact on worldcancerday.org Help manage the relationships with members, partners, stakeholders and individuals with follow-up emails Monitor online mentions and media clippings Potentially support other colleagues with their calls to members General support of the Communications team with World Cancer Day related tasks Capacity to take on last minute requests on the Day CANDIDATE'S PROFILE Requirements Studying or experience in an area relevant to the job description e.g. communications, marketing, international relations, public health, etc. Interest in global public health issues and working in an international non-governmental organisation environment Fluent in English - written and spoken; French, Spanish and/or any other languages are a plus Excellent oral and writing skills including ability to synthesise information Self-starter and fast learner Strong team player Desire and willingness to take on independent tasks Valid permit to work in Switzerland required WHAT WE OFFER Monthly stipend International and multidisciplinary working environment Interesting work with a variety of tasks ‘Learning by doing’ philosophy Opportunity to work on project to completion Please send a recent – but short – Curriculum Vitae and a motivation letter to Caroline Perréard at perreard@uicc.org Closing date of application: 31 May 2016.
