Incoming UICC President Jeff Dunn diagnosed with cancer

UICC President-elect Prof. Jeff Dunn AO has informed UICC, its members, partners and wider network that he has been diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma. He remains upbeat and will continue to assume his various responsibilities in cancer control.

Header Paragraph

Professor Jeff Dunn AO, President-elect of UICC and Chief of Mission and Head of Research at the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia,  has been diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma – a rare and quite aggressive cancer.

While the diagnosis is serious, his cancer care team are confident of being able to bring it into remission within a few months.

Although Jeff cannot travel this year and will not be able to attend the World Cancer Congress in Geneva in person, he is still determined to work virtually for the remainder of the year bringing UICC and its members his wise counsel and his vast experience in cancer control.

Jeff asked the UICC management to share this news with staff, members, partners and the wider cancer community, because he wants to assure everyone that he remains committed to take on the Presidency of UICC as foreseen through to October 2024.

Anil D'Cruz will hand the Presidency over to Jeff Dunn at the next virtual UICC General Assembly on 11 October.

"I often say in presentations that we are all touched by cancer in our lifetime. Even so, it still comes as a shock when someone so close receives a diagnosis of cancer. Jeff is taking on this new challenge with the same positive energy and focus he gives to so many things in his life. In Jeff, we will have a wonderful President and someone who will inspire our community to re-double our efforts to help cancer patients around the world.
–    Prof. Anil D’Cruz, President of UICC 2020-2022
