From Global Commitments to Integrated Lung Health Action: Advancing early diagnosis of lung cancer and access to inhaled medicines for COPD and asthma (WHA79 Official Side event)

This session explores practical strategies to improve early lung cancer diagnosis and expand equitable access to COPD and asthma medicines through integrated, country-led approaches.

This side-event is co-hosted by the Ministry of Health of Malaysia, the Union for International Cancer Control, the Forum of International Respiratory Societies, and the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) and supported by Kenya, the Philippines, Brazil, and the NCD Alliance.

This WHA side event brings together Member States, WHO and partners to translate recent global commitments on NCDs and integrated lung health into concrete country action. It highlights how integrated approaches within UHC and primary health care can improve early diagnosis of lung cancer alongside access to essential inhaled medicines for COPD and asthma. Through country experiences, technical perspectives and lived experience, the discussion focuses on reducing fragmentation across disease programmes, strengthening PHC platforms, and advancing equitable, people‑centred respiratory care aligned with global guidance and national priorities.
