Free Tobacco Cessation Camp in Mumbai
India has the largest number of oral cancer cases in the world, caused primarily by tobacco. Reducing the tobacco burden is critical in low- and middle-income countries like India, where 80% of the world’s tobacco users reside and tobacco-related deaths are highest, globally. More than one-third of those in India (≥15 years old) use tobacco in some form which attributes to one million deaths annually. Few interventions, however, have been designed and evaluated to inform efforts to alleviate this burden. One of them is Tobacco Cessation Camp. Therefore a free Free Tobacco Cessation Camp for the community will be conducted by Dr. Bhumika Kamal Badiyani and Dr. Amit Kumar InterDental Multispeciality Dental Clinic in Mumbai, India on 4th February 2023 from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. The objective of the initiative is to provide effective counseling to tobacco users who are willing to quit and enable them to quit tobacco. Strategies will include films, pictorial handouts, board games, cessation booklets, and face-to-face interactions. Patients who have prolonged use of tobacco products will be screened for Oral cancer in future appointments.
