UICC awards four YY Study Grants for international cancer research

The new YY Study Grants were awarded to researchers from Argentina, India, Pakistan, and Nigeria.

UICC is pleased to announce the recipients of four new YY Study Grants from the 2024 call. YY Study Grants enable established cancer researchers to further their work through three-month international visits to leading research institutions.

The Yamagiwa-Yoshida Memorial International Cancer (YY) Study Grants have been providing cancer researchers with learning opportunities since 1972, made possible thanks to the long-term support of UICC-Japan. Open to qualified researchers (at least two years’ post PhD) from any country, these awards facilitate three-month visits, enabling advances in cancer research through international collaboration, and providing new skills and valuable experience.

Four new YY Study Grants have been awarded from the 2024 call for applications to researchers from Argentina, India, Pakistan and Nigeria. The grantees will visit Spain, Japan, the UK and the US respectively for their three-month collaborative research visits.

The grants support a variety of topics including: the epigenetic characterisation of tumours using computational methods; investigation of molecules that are potential prognostic biomarkers for chronic lymphocytic leukemia and renal cell carcinoma; and a therapeutic strategy to address breast cancer disparities.

“The clinical significance of these findings will be invaluable upon my return to Argentina, as it will enable us to apply these insights at our hospital, thereby enhancing the prognostic value at the time of diagnosis and during treatment monitoring.”
