UICC Past President Princess Dina Mired of Jordan and UICC President-elect Dr Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu aim to enhance global understanding of cancer control, with respective montly and weekly podcasts featuring expert insights and accessible discussions for diverse audiences.

Podcasts have become a powerful tool for raising awareness and sharing knowledge on critical health issues. They can offer accessible and engaging discussions that help bridge gaps in public understanding, dispel myths, and provide expert insights on prevention, treatment, and care.

Two prominent figures in the cancer community, Princess Dina Mired of Jordan, Past President of UICC and former Director-General of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation, and Dr Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu, President-elect of UICC and Founder of the MedicAid Cancer Foundation in Nigeria, have recently each launched a podcast aimed at addressing global as well as regional health challenges and fostering discussions on cancer-related topics.

Princess Dina Mired is drawing on her extensive experience and unique perspective as a passionate advocate to create a conversational and accessible platform for discussing health systems and cancer control.

She aims to reach a diverse audience, including healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the general public, by featuring guests from various regions and sectors. The podcast is being released monthly and is available on OncoDaily TV and most streaming platforms.

“Coming from a low middle-income country, I’ve seen firsthand the health challenges that many people face. As president of UICC, I also gained a broader view – travelling the world, meeting so many people, and staying engaged in this field. My goal with this podcast was to make complex health topics more relatable and engaging, helping more people understand global health issues."

Dr Zainab Bagudu-Shinkafi, a paediatrician and cancer advocate, has also launched a podcast to address gaps in public knowledge and provide credible information on cancer. Her podcast, ‘United Against Cancer,’ features interviews with experts, patients, and advocates, offering diverse perspectives on cancer-related issues. The podcast runs weekly, and is also available on OncoDaily TV and most streaming plaforms.

Dr Bagudu-Shinkafi’s primary aim is to dispel myths and share the latest research on cancer, providing accurate and timely information on cancer prevention, treatment, and care to a wide audience.

“No matter how educated someone is, there’s always room for learning. The gap I find on a daily basis, even in the most mundane things, exists among people who are highly educated yet still struggle to understand. Some of the most basic misconceptions persist, which is why I wanted to share credible information in small, accessible ‘nuggets’ on a weekly basis – making complex topics easier to understand and apply.”
