Call for abstracts for the World Cancer Congress 2026 in Hong Kong now open

Researchers and professionals are invited to submit by 1 April 2026 abstracts that address key challenges in cancer prevention, treatment, and care, with the potential to attract media interest and a chance to shape global cancer control.

Award ceremony during the World Cancer Congress 2024, celebrating outstanding abstracts. Alongside Prof. Jeff Dunn AO, President of UICC in 2024, Elina Vitanlemi, Director of Cancer Support Switzerland, presents the Best Fundraising Campaign Report award to Maryna Kartashova of Medisance, Ukraine, for Assistance in restoring the work of an oncology clinic in Ukraine.

UICC has opened the call for abstract submissions for the upcoming World Cancer Congress 2026 in Hong Kong, 24-26 September. They are welcome from across the cancer control field – including researchers, practitioners, advocates, policymakers, and people with lived experience. The deadline for submissions is 1 April 2026.

Abstracts are an essential part of UICC's World Cancer Congress, offering insights into innovations in research, prevention, service delivery, and treatment, as well as successful advocacy, fundraising, and health awareness campaigns.

Selected abstracts will be presented as part of the official Congress programme. Authors will have the opportunity to share their work with a global audience and contribute directly to discussions that inform policy and practice.

All submissions will be reviewed by the Congress Abstract Committee, which includes internationally recognised experts working across multiple domains of cancer control. Abstracts will be assessed on clarity, relevance, originality, and contribution to the field. The list of committee members, including their areas of expertise, is available on the Congress website.

High-scoring submissions will be recognised during an awards ceremony at the closing event, and the 200 highest-scoring abstracts will be published in a special supplement of the International Journal of Cancer.

In addition, selected abstract authors might have the opportunity to share their work with a wider audience through UICC’s media channels, increasing visibility and impact. To maximise the potential for media coverage, we encourage authors to time the release of their publication around the event, so that they can freely and fully discuss all findings with interested journalists.

Abstracts must align with the Congress programme themes and follow the official submission guidelines, which include information on eligibility, formats, and evaluation criteria. Submissions should clearly present objectives and outcomes, and where applicable, provide evidence of results or effectiveness.
