Nearly 90 Bristol Myers Squibb employees set off for the C2C4C Europe ride in support of cancer organisations

The 11th edition of the C2C4C (Country 2 Country 4 Cancer) Europe cycling event, organised by UICC partner Bristol Myers Squibb, today in Munich. Over the next 18 days, six teams totalling nearly 90 employees from 18 European nations and the US will relay their way to London, crossing Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain and the United Kingdom for a combined distance of nearly 2,200 kilometres.

Riders do not simply raise funds for a single national campaign. Each team of the six teams is taking on a three-day stage of the journey, cycling up to 360 kilometres after five months of training and preparation, in support of cancer organisations in their own countries, all of them UICC members. 

Seventeen UICC member organisations will benefit this year, among them Maggie’s UK, Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer in Spain, Barncancerfonden in Sweden, Stichting Tegen Kanker / Fondation contre le Cancer in Belgium, Patients en Réseau in France, and the Hellenic Cancer Federation (ELLOK) in Greece.

Between them they run research, support children and families living with cancer, and offer people affected by cancer a voice in how care is designed.

The ride is part of Bristol Myers Squibb’s global C2C4C initiative, which began in the US in 2014 and expanded to Europe in 2016. Since then, hundreds of employees have volunteered their time to train, fundraise, and participate, often motivated by their own experiences with cancer.

More than USD 4.3 million have been raised through the European ride, and this year again Bristol Myers Squibb will donate up to USD 220,000 to support rider fundraising efforts.

Beyond the kilometres cycled, it reflects a longstanding commitment to cancer and demonstrates the power of collective action. UICC and its members are grateful to Bristol Myers Squibb and its inspiring employees.
