The University of Illinois Cancer Center (Cancer Center) is a matrix cancer center that is part of the University of Illinois Chicago, an R1 research university and federally-designated Minority-Serving Institution. The Cancer Center provides outstanding cancer care through community-responsive research, practice, and outreach to Cook County, IL, one of the most diverse catchment areas in the United States, and is embedded in impoverished communities with a high cancer burden through the UI Health system and its affiliated network of Federally Qualified Health Centers, collectively known as Mile Square Health Center. The Cancer Center supports three programs of research: Translational Oncology, Cancer Biology, and Cancer Prevention and Control – supporting collaborative research and partnering with Mile Square Health Center to identify cancer risks, prevent cancer, and reduce cancer morbidity and mortality in communities with a high cancer burden.
