Nest of Hope Advocacy and Support Community

Nest Of Hope Advocacy and Support Community (NOHASC) was founded out of experience and passion by a cancer survivor as an advocacy and support group. The organization aims among other things to advocate for cancer control, patients, and raise awareness about cancer incidence, prevalence and the burden. In Nigeria, the number of cancer deaths remain high as patients present late. Again, the population that can access care is low due to disparities.The organization provides support services in three(3) major areas of the eight (8) priority areas of the National Cancer Control Plan(NCCP) to achieve our vision. These 3 major priority areas include 1. Prevention- Through education, awareness programs emphasizing on behavioral change/ lifestyle modification, the need for screenings and early detection.2. Advocacy and Social Mobilization - where the organization helps to increase cancer prevalence awareness and advocate at all levels of authority for cancer control, provision of screening facilities to institute cancer prevention interventions in all healthcare facilities.3. Survivorship care - To help patients/ survivors get through treatment, recovery and reintegrate to the community. About 85% of Nigerians becomes indigent after cancer treatment. This leaves the individual mostly stigmatized and depressed. The organization provides peer mentorship, supportive and palliative care through crowd/ fundraising.
