Liga Puertorriqueña Contra el Cáncer y su Hospital Oncológico Dr. Isaac González Martínez

Liga Puertorriqueña Contra el Cáncer is a non-profit organisation which instituted the first Puerto Rican oncology hospital in 1962. Our medical facility, Hospital Oncológico Dr. Isaac González Martínez, is located in the Puerto Rico Medical Center in San Juan and provides high-quality medical care to adult cancer patients and especially to those with economic needs. As a Commission on Cancer-accredited facility, we provide patient-centred interdisciplinary care to approximately 410 newly diagnosed cancer patients per year. Our highly experienced medical faculty work together with allied health professionals in a state-of-the-art medical and technological facility. Our cancer patients have access to specialised medical services that follow the best standards of oncology medical care. Under the same roof, they have access to medical services including, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery, Bone Marrow Transplant, Rehabilitation, Orthopedic, Gynecology, Urology, Gastroenterology, and Dermatology Medicine, Nuclear and Imaging Medicine, Chemotherapy and Infusion Service, Ostomy Care, as well as patient navigation, health education, nutritional counseling and psychosocial and spiritual care. Our organisation has a charity program available to patients without medical insurance as a means to prevent health disparities. Also, a group of volunteers provide support to our patients and their loved ones, and distributes snacks and basic commodities to those in need. Our organisation allocates recurrent funds to community outreach programs to provide access to cancer screening and medical services for citizens living in areas of limited medical resources. Our mobile units are fully equipped to perform digital mammograms and routine medical examinations. Our organisation has shown a strong commitment to reducing the cancer burden in Puerto Rico for 62 years. We now would like to continue contributing to this mission at a global level.
