Hope Life International

Hope Life International is a healthcare advocacy and public health research organization in The Gambia working to improve health outcomes through community engagement, health education, disease prevention, early detection, research, advocacy, and partnerships. While cancer control is not currently our organisation's sole area of work, we are increasingly developing activities focused on cancer prevention, awareness, early detection, and community-based health education. Our cancer-related work aims to improve public understanding of cancer risk factors, promote healthy lifestyles and preventive behaviours, encourage timely health-seeking and screening, and strengthen referral and access to appropriate healthcare services. We are particularly interested in addressing cancers affecting women, including cervical and breast cancer, and in reducing inequalities that limit access to cancer information, screening, early diagnosis, and care among underserved communities. Hope Life International engages healthcare professionals, community leaders, patient and community groups, government stakeholders, researchers, and development partners to strengthen evidence-based approaches to cancer prevention and control. We also seek to generate and use local evidence to identify barriers to cancer prevention and early detection and to support advocacy for improved cancer services and policies in The Gambia. Through UICC membership, we hope to strengthen our technical capacity, expand partnerships, participate in cancer research and knowledge exchange, and contribute to regional and global efforts to reduce the burden of cancer. Our long-term goal is to establish stronger community-based cancer prevention and early-detection programmes and ensure that people in The Gambia, particularly vulnerable and underserved populations, have better access to accurate information and appropriate cancer services.
