Ciheb Zambia has implemented an integrated cervical cancer screening programme for women living
with HIV (WLHIV) as part of comprehensive HIV care services in collaboration with the Ministry of
Health. The project focused on increasing access to early cervical cancer screening through communitybased
differentiated service delivery and strengthening referral pathways for women requiring further
diagnosis and treatment.
Ciheb Zambia has extensive experience delivering integrated HIV and cervical cancer (CxCa) prevention
services for women at high risk of HIV infection. Through our community-based differentiated service
delivery model, we support the Ministry of Health (MOH) to provide HIV prevention, testing, treatment,
and sexual and reproductive health services to female sex workers (FSWs) through established
community-based drop-in centres (DICs).
Our CxCa programme provides routine screening using visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) and/or
HPV DNA testing, where available, for women living with HIV accessing services at DICs. Women with
positive screening results are promptly referred and linked to MOH facilities for diagnosis, treatment, and
follow-up, while those with negative results receive prevention counselling and guidance on routine
rescreening.
