Bulgarian Cancer Scientific Society

Bulgarian Cancer Scientific Society (BCSS) unites specialists from all oncological fields - surgery, radiation therapy, medical oncology, as well as specialists from other specialties related to oncology. It is recognized as a leading oncology society in the country by all oncology specialists as well as other national scientific societies and local authorities. BCSS is currently the driving force behind the initiation and preparation of the National Beating Cancer Plan in line with the European Beating Cancer Plan. Our Society is involved in the creation of a National Oncology Alliance consisting of 27 different organizations working closely with the local Ministry of Health on the effective preparation and implementation of this plan in our country. Bulgarian Cancer Scientific Society is focused on the development and enrichment of scientific knowledge and practical work in the field of oncology in cooperation with organizations, institutions, individuals, and legal entities in the country and abroad on issues related to cancer as well as by establishing contacts with similar foreign organizations. The organization initiates and participates also in the development and participation in projects for the study and research of various aspects in the field of oncology. For the past 10 years BCSS has been organizing and conducting annual National Conferences on Medical Oncology, with international participation, which enabled the creation of the country's first ‘Medical Standards for Systemic Drug Treatment of Solid Tumors’. These standards are being updated annually according to European and world criteria and they have been adopted by local authorities as the main basis for reimbursement in medical oncology. The ‘Journal of Bulgarian Cancer Scientific Society’ plays an important role in the Society’s activities. It gives Bulgarian oncologists the opportunity to show constant and continuing participation in science and practice through the original articles.
