The Afghanistan Cancer Foundation (ACF) is a non-governmental, non-partisan and non-profit organization established in 2015 with a mission to strengthen cancer control in Afghanistan through awareness, advocacy, palliative care and research support services.

ACF was founded through the initiative of the Director General of the Afghanistan Medical Council, Dr. Shafaq Shinwari, together with Afghan women whose lives had been deeply affected by cancer. Having witnessed the devastating physical, emotional and financial impact of cancer on patients and families, they came together with a shared humanitarian conviction: that no person should face cancer alone, without dignity, hope, or access to care.

In Afghanistan, cancer is often diagnosed late and many families struggle to access timely diagnosis, treatment and essential support due to limited oncology infrastructure and financial hardship. Behind every patient is a family facing fear, uncertainty and loss—often with few available options for care.

ACF is committed to changing this reality by strengthening national capacity, promoting early detection and awareness and advocating for a comprehensive and equitable cancer care system. With stronger partnerships and support, ACF aims to ensure that every patient in Afghanistan has access to timely, affordable and quality cancer care—bringing hope where it is needed most.
