The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) is a global membership organisation dedicated to reducing the global cancer burden and advancing equity in cancer control. Founded in 1933 and based in Geneva, UICC brings together over 1,100 member organisations across 172 countries and works closely with the UN, WHO and a wide range of global partners. 

Summary of the role

UICC is seeking a Knowledge and Advocacy Coordinator to support the implementation of workplans within the Knowledge, Advocacy and Policy team, with a focus on lung cancer, tobacco control and engagement in global advocacy processes. The role supports evidence in formed advocacy by synthesising research, coordinating stakeholders, and contributing to high quality communications and reporting.

Main responsibilities

Tobacco control:

  • Support implementation of UICC’s tobacco control strategy, including participation in consultations, working groups and expert discussions
  • Support activities focusing on monitoring tobacco control policies, evidence and tobacco industry actions at global and regional levels
  • Support organisation of meetings and advocacy activities, including preparation of materials, notetaking and reporting
  • Coordinate communications and reporting on tobacco control activities, including content development, webpage updates and contributions around key milestones (e.g. World No Tobacco Day, WHO FCTC meetings)

Lung Cancer Collaboration:

  • Support coordination of the Lung Cancer Collaboration, including implementation of the strategy and action plan
  • Coordinate day to day communication with LCC partners and stakeholders, including support to governance and external engagements
  • Prepare and contribute to briefings, summaries and reports on LCC activities, progress and outcomes
  • Support communications and advocacy activities, including webpage updates, development of communication resources, moderation of a virtual community, and participation in stakeholder discussions in Geneva

Crosscutting advocacy and knowledge support:

  • Synthesise evidence and policy developments into clear briefings, reports and learning materials, and contribute to UICC documents, advocacy resources and partner communications as required.
  • Support UICC’s engagement in global and regional advocacy processes (including WHO and UN meetings) by helping organise meetings, preparing materials, monitoring outcomes and supporting followup with partners and stakeholders.

Education and experience

  • Master’s degree in public health, international relations or a related field, with strong analytical and research skills
  • 1-3 years of professional experience
  • Proven experience in coordination, advocacy or policyrelated work, preferably within international, multilateral or civil society settings
  • Experience drafting reports, briefs or summaries based on data and evidence
  • Experience supporting engagement with diverse stakeholders, including international organisations, civil society and government representatives

Skills and competences

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including drafting reports, meeting minutes and stakeholder correspondence
  • Project coordination skills, including managing timelines, prioritising tasks and working across multiple workstreams
  • Research and analytical skills applied to public health and cancer control topics
  • Digital literacy and experience using tools for virtual collaboration and online community engagement
  • Strong coordination and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external partners in a multicultural environment
  • Fluency in English (essential) and French (desirable)
  • The role is based in Geneva, Switzerland and the applicant should hold a Swiss working permit.
