Hear the voice of UICC members who enhanced their advocacy skills and knowledge

On 15th September 2020, UICC opened the call for expressions of interest to participate in the Cancer Advocates programme and select 20 UICC members from low- and middle-income countries to be part of the second cohort of organisations to benefit from this learning experience.

The Cancer Advocates programme aims to respond to the needs of UICC members who are keen to advance their knowledge and skills on advocacy, strengthen civil society action and work collaboratively to engage government and parliament, increasing their influence and making cancer control a national priority.

This Virtual Dialogue was an opportunity to hear the voice of UICC members who have participated in the Cancer Advocates programme. They shared their learning experience and ways they have leveraged the technical support from UICC, and an increased network of peers and experts, to sustain and improve their national advocacy efforts and strategies. They presented their achievements, challenges and future plans to inspire the global cancer community to take action now and raise the profile of cancer control everywhere.

The Dialogue was held at three times on Thursday, 24th September, to enable UICC members from different regions and speaking different languages to attend.

The Dialogue includes a short introduction from UICC staff, followed by a presentation from UICC members that have taken part in the programme, and a 30 minute Q&A session to help prepare any interested organisations in applying for the programme.
