The social enterprise discovering hands (dh) which was founded in 2011 by Dr. Frank Hoffmann, a German gynecologist. He has developed a method for blind and visually impaired women to perform breast palpations to detect breast cancer in a standardized and certified process. The diagnosis is left to the discretion of the responsible physician. The activity of the Manual Tactile Examiner (MTE) focuses on the practical execution of the tactile breast examination, including the relevant lymphatic drainage areas. The examination was designed and formulated in accordance with the oncology curriculum of three German organizations, AWMF1, DKG2 et DKH3 and is based in particular on the "S3" guideline for the screening, diagnosis, therapy and follow-up of breast carcinoma in women. In her daily practice, the EMT works as independently as possible. She reports her palpatory findings to the physician in accordance with the "DOKOS" Documentation and Referral System developed by discovering hands. pretac+ signed a Pilot Phase Agreement with discovering hands in Germany in sept 2020 to implement the discovering hands method in Switzerland. pretac is organizing a pilot project that trains visually impaired or blind women in the discovering hand method for tactile breast cancer screening in Switzerland. We have two MTE certified by discovering hands in Swiss Romande. Mrs Lucchese is based in Lausanne and started a three months internship at Dr Bracher’s practice, gynecologist, August 26th 2022. With Catherine Rausch based in Berne, responsible job coaching at Fédération Suisse des Aveugles (FSA), we are looking for more internships at gynecologists and radiologists practices, for Ms Mehraban in the Canton of Geneva and for Mrs Lucchese in the Canton of Vaud. The next step to finalize the current pilot project will be to implement a six months of self job test.
