Since 2018, MSF has incorporated cancer care into its strategic plan to address the rising prevalence of cancers, particularly female cancers like cervical and breast cancer, in resource-limited countries. Despite increased global efforts to improve access to prevention, diagnosis and treatment, access remains limited, often excluding women. Consequently, MSF has been developing cancer care projects since 2018, collaborating with Ministries of Health across the entire care continuum: prevention and screening, diagnosis, treatment, supportive, and palliative care.
MSF’s objective is to establish care models to broaden access to cancer services in low-resource settings, where such services are often scarce or nonexistent. Recognizing the significant disparities in outcomes for women with cancer, this initiative will prioritize documentation and operational research to highlight scientific evidence and inequalities. By doing so, MSF aims to generate international attention and advocacy for improved access to cancer care.
