For over 100 years The Christie has been at the forefront of innovations in cancer treatment, often in collaboration with partners across the globe. As the largest radiotherapy provider in Europe, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is one of only two cancer centres worldwide to offer treatments using an MR-Linac and high energy proton beam therapy. As a comprehensive cancer centre, accredited by the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI), The Christie’s strategic ambition is to share knowledge and learn through its collaboration in existing global cancer networks and establish new overseas partnerships for the benefit of the 60,000 patients it treats each year and the millions of cancer patients around the world. It was for this reason The Christie became a member of the UICC. Drawing on the clinical and technical expertise of its diverse international workforce, The Christie collaborates with other NHS trusts offering clinical and technical advice on cancer centre development and transformation through commercial service agreements. The Christie School of Oncology provides education and training opportunities to the wide spectrum of health professionals involved in cancer care. At any given time, The Christie has more than 650 clinical research studies and trials running, many involving international partners. In collaboration with The University of Manchester and Cancer Research UK, The Christie is set to extend the facilities of the Manchester Cancer Research Centre in 2022 with a £150m world class transformational research building, potentially doubling the number of patients who could be offered access to a clinical trial.
