The Summit will be held in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
This year, the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit will be a hybrid event, combining an in-person and virtual programme. In the lead up to the Summit, a series of high-level content tackling innovations will be available on the platform to give leaders a glimpse of some of the Summit’s discussions that will take place.
Global influencers and leaders in cancer control, as well as public health representatives from around the world working in government and non-government agencies, academia, non-profit organisations and the private sector will explore how the cancer community works with governments and encourages them to invest in cancer control. They will examine how governments can be more innovative in their approach, and better understand the cancer burden in their countries, improve prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer.
Key questions that will be addressed include the nature of the current innovations along the cancer control continuum (with particular emphasis on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic), how they can be made available in different resource seettings, and what needs to be considered when implementing innovative policies, practices and technologies from a health systems perspective.
The Summit will also discuss how implementation research can successfully improve the adoption of cancer and NCD interventions in national policy with country-level case studies. The programme will highlight how innovation can improve cancer outcomes, with a particular regard to the new global initiatives on cervical cancer, childhood cancer and breast cancer.
A preliminary agenda will soon be released. Several high-level speakers have already confirmed their participation. Find out who they are here.
The event is usually open to CEOs of UICC full members, UICC partners and select leaders from the global health and cancer communities. However, the 2021 edition will exceptionally extend its scope of invitation and be accessible to CEOs of UICC associate members.
This event is by invitation only (the invite is non transferable), and without registration fees.
