2021 World Cancer Leaders' Summit
Driving innovation to advance cancer control equitably
25-26 October, around the world virtually

The World Cancer Leaders' Summit was hosted by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 October 2021, around the world virtually.

The Summit was held in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

UICC's first-ever World Cancer Leaders' Summit in virtual format took place over two days filled with inspiring speeches, expert discussions and promising connections and meetings between over 600 participants. Check out all the live and pre-recorded sessions of the event here

In the lead up to the Summit, a series of high-level content tackling innovations were also made available on the platform to give leaders a glimpse of some of the Summit’s discussions that took place.

Overarching theme – 2021 edition: "Driving innovation to advance cancer control equitably"

Global influencers and leaders in cancer control, as well as public health representatives from around the world working in government and non-government agencies, academia, non-profit organisations and the private sector, explored how the cancer community works with governments and encourages them to invest in cancer control. They examined how governments could be more innovative in their approach, and better understand the cancer burden in their countries, improve prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer.

Key questions that were addressed included the nature of the current innovations along the cancer control continuum (with particular emphasis on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic), how they could be made available in different resource settingsand what needs to be considered when implementing innovative policies, practices and technologies from a health systems perspective.

The Summit also discussed how implementation research can successfully improve the adoption of cancer and NCD interventions in national policy with country-level case studies. The programme highlighted how innovation can improve cancer outcomes, with particular regard to the new global initiatives on cervical cancer, childhood cancer and breast cancer.
