World Cancer Day – February 2018

World Cancer Day 2018: the last year of We can. I can.
2018 marked the final year of the ‘We can. I can.’ World Cancer Day campaign. Over the past three years, we have seen you - our members organise walks, marches, fundraisers, free screenings, press conferences, workshops, and more - and we saw you on the streets, on social, in shopping malls, in hospitals, on football fields, in schools and in parliament all rallying around the theme of ‘We can. I can.’
As a collective this year, we achieved nearly 1,000 activities around the world, over 13,000 press articles, nearly half a million tweets and thousands of messages of support. We are excited to share with you the results in greater detail in early April when we publish the 2018 World Cancer Day Impact Report.
You made an impact. Thank you.
To UICC members, governments, cities, World Cancer day partners, organisations, individuals living with cancer, families and caregivers, healthcare professionals, and supporters, you made an impact this past 4 February. Thank you.
Partners engagement in World Cancer Day 2018
The unmet needs of rare cancers: panel discussion
To mark World Cancer Day, UICC partner Boehringer Ingelheim, hosted a Facebook Live event, inviting a panel of experts including UICC Head of Advocacy and Networks, Dr Julie Torode, to shine a spotlight on rare cancers, including Mesothelioma, and the challenges in securing diagnosis and optimal treatment.
Hear more from the panel as they highlight the policies needed to address rare cancers along with an urgent call to policy makers to improve research funding, diagnosis, support and more affordable and equal access to treatment for patients living with mesothelioma and other rare cancers.
Webinar: Cancer leaders provide guidance for national action
The lead up to World Cancer Day 2018 provided an opportune moment for cancer leaders and experts to come together to share and examine the policy recommendations of the landmark 2017 Cancer Resolution with a focus sharply on feasible actions to support effective implementation of cancer plan priorities.
In this webinar, listen to the robust exchange between leading experts from MSD, PATH, UICC and the WHO, as they share their experiences in improving access to treatment and the quality of life of cancer patients within a country.
