The Cancer Atlas 2nd Edition launched in Portuguese

16 March 2016, Sao Paolo, Brazil – Barretos Cancer Hospital and the American Cancer Society released The Cancer Atlas, 2nd Edition, translated into Portuguese.

It is the first time that this global tool to reduce the burden of cancer has been made available in Portuguese. The Cancer Atlas highlights Brazil’s strengths and opportunities for improvement as they relate to cancer. It allows policy makers, researchers, and academics to fully assess differences in risk, burden, prevention, and treatment.

The Launch was celebrated with two events in Sao Paolo and Barretos. During the Launch in Sao Palo, UICC Board Member and current president of Femama, Maira Caleffi, pointed out the importance and power of advocacy to increase the visibility and need of cancer control and to develop better policies and national cancer control programs that will help patients and save lives.

She strongly encouraged all cancer control advocates and patients to also use the Cancer Atlas in developing their own advocacy work at the local and national level.

The Portuguese version will be disseminated throughout the Lusophone region of Africa as well as Portugal. A website for the Cancer Atlas is set up in parallel: www.atlasdocancer.com.br.

The Cancer Atlas is the result of a joint initiative between the American Cancer Society, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), and the Union for International Cancer Control to give the global cancer community a new tool in the fight against cancer. The Atlas provides leaders worldwide with actionable data and insights to make better decisions, in order to work toward putting an end to the cancer epidemic.

The Portuguese version of the Cancer Atlas will be soon available for download here.

From the foreword of the Atlas:
