Commemorating a decade of Bristol Myers Squibb employees cycling for cancer research

The fundraising period for the C2C4C (Country 2 Country 4 Cancer) ride is now open as of 5 June! More than 90 employees of Bristol Myers Squibb will cycle this September through five European countries to raise funds for UICC member organisations.

This year marks a decade of the C2C4C ride, known in Europe as ‘Country 2 Country 4 Cancer’, and inaugurated in the US in 2014 as the “Coast 2 Coast 4 Cancer”. This testifies to the dedication of UICC’s esteemed partner Bristol Myers Squibb to contribute to reducing the burden that cancer places on individuals, families and communities, and to offer a higher quality of life for people who have been affected by the disease.

Fundraising begins on 5 June and the race will take place early September.

"I continue to be amazed and inspired by our Country 2 Country 4 Cancer ride. Our motto, ‘It’s more than a bike ride,’ truly encapsulates the passion and focus of our work. We put the patients at the center of what we do, and raising funds to advance cancer research is one of the most powerful ways our employees can make a difference for patients and their families in need.”
Martin Whalen, General Manager, EU Cluster Markets, Bristol Myers Squibb

The first C2C4C ride in Europe was first held in 2016. Since then, nearly 550 Bristol Myers Squibb employees have raised over USD2.6 million through the C2C4C ride for European cancer organisations who are members of UICC.

This year, six teams comprising riders from 19 countries, including, for the first time, participants from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Romania, will take part in the 18-day cycling relay through Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain and the UK, covering nearly 2,200 kilometres.

The riders are novice cyclists who have dedicated themselves to five months of intensive training. Their ranks include people who have experienced cancer, individuals who have seen loved ones battle the disease and those who are passionate about supporting the cause.

“This year’s edition of C2C4C ride is an occasion to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this fundraising adventure. UICC has been with Bristol Myers Squibb for most of this incredible journey and we are grateful as ever on behalf of our members for the company’s generosity in supporting cancer research and people living with cancer. We certainly look forward again to this year’s ride!”
Cary Adams, CEO of UICC
