Meaningful Engagement Workshop at the World Cancer Congress 2024

World Cancer Congress workshop

Workshop at the World Cancer Congress 2024

The importance of engaging people with lived experience is gaining increasing attention in cancer control, but its adoption remains fragmented and inconsistently implemented, and is still non-existent or nascent in many low- and middle-income countries. There is a need to ensure systematic integration across the health system and to ensure engagement is truly meaningful.

UICC is delighted to hold an in-person workshop on the meaningful engagement of people living with cancer at the World Cancer Congress 2024 (WCC), in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) framework on meaningful engagement.

The workshop will be held on Thursday 19 September in Geneva, 2:30 pm – 5.00 pm, and will build on the Congress programme theme of people living with cancer and relevant Congress sessions. The thought-provoking session ‘Lived Experiences in Cancer Care: Transformative Force or Passing Fad?’, taking place during the Congress, will explore the evolving topic and the importance of including people with lived experience in the health systems that serve them, whilst the Meaningful Engagement workshop will focus on the implementation of the WHO framework and participatory approaches to enhance health practices, policies and services. Together, these events will bridge the gap between understanding the ‘why’ and preparing for the ‘how’ of meaningful engagement in cancer control.
