The 2018 World Cancer Congress entitled ‘Strengthen. Inspire. Deliver’ marked history as the first of its kind to be held in South-East Asia.

More than 2,500 delegates from 120 countries were hosted by the National Cancer Society of Malaysia, supported by the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the Malaysian Convention and Exhibition Bureau in Kuala Lumpur for the 25th edition of the World Cancer Congress.

This year’s Congress aimed at actively engaging participants by organising activities supporting capacity building and networking. The Congress programme itself kicked off on 2nd October with the ‘Break-Ice-Fast’ networking event for UICC Members and partners enabling attendees to network with their peers and ensuring that they made the most out of their participation in KL.

The programme, divided into five tracks, included a new stream focusing on mobilising funds and attracting resources. With 330 international and multi-sectoral speakers presenting in over 120 sessions, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre hummed and buzzed throughout its three days. Participants took part in a huge diversity of sessions ranging from highly popular morning plenary lectures and passionate “Big Debates” to packed UICC regional meetings, a successful CEO programme and many more innovative and high quality sessions.

Amongst other highlights, participants praised the numerous opportunities to develop new initiatives and collaborations, share practical case studies from across the world and interact with a diverse panel of top experts from all sectors. They also enjoyed the unique opportunity to present and learn in a stimulating and inspiring environment and plan on transferring the knowledge which they have obtained during the Congress with their organisations back at home.

The Congress wrapped up at the official Closing Ceremony which was held in the Global Village, comprised of 57 exhibiting organisations. It was here, that participants discovered the bustling atmosphere of the Congress’ central hub, where for the first time exhibitors were able to enjoy their own ‘Regional Pavilions’, representing every global region.
