World Cancer Day 2014: Debunk the myths!

The 2014 Campaign is launched, with a newly branded website and supporting materials.

Header Paragraph

In preparation for the 2014 World Cancer Day (4 February 2014), UICC has launched a rebranded website under the new visual identity for the 2014 campaign.

World Cancer Day 2014 (4 February 2014) will build on the success of last year's campaign, by again focusing on Target 5 of the World Cancer Declaration: Dispel damaging myths and misconceptions about cancer, under the tagline “Debunk the myths”.

With the help of the World Cancer Day Advisory Group, the campaign will center around the following myths and their related truths about cancer:

Myth 1:  We don't need to talk about cancer
Truth: Whilst cancer can be a difficult topic to address, particularly in some cultures and settings, dealing with the disease openly can improve outcomes at an individual, community and policy level.

Myth 2: There are no signs or symptoms of cancer
Truth: For many cancers, there are warning signs and symptoms and the benefits of early detection are indisputable.

Myth 3: There is nothing I can do about cancer
Truth: There is a lot that can be done at an individual, community and policy level and with the right strategies; a third of the most common cancers can be prevented.

Myth 4: I don't have the right to cancer care
Truth: All people have the right to access proven and effective cancer treatments and services on equal terms, and without suffering hardship as a consequence.

Today, we are excited to be able to share with you the Fact Sheets and Evidence Sheets that will shape the 2014 campaign. Additionally, in order to properly promote the event and spread the messaging, we've also made some Postcards and Posters available. We hope you will enjoy the new graphic identity as much as we do.

Head on over to worldcancerday.org to download the Fact sheets, Evidence Sheets, as well as the Posters and Postcards.

Do you know what you will be doing for World Cancer Day 2014 already?

Uploading your event or campaign onto the World Cancer Day Map of Events is easy, simply click here to submit your activity. Use your mouse or the arrows on the map itself to zoom in and move the map around to see what is happening in your region.

Even if you have an event, activity or campaign that does not fall on 4th February exactly, but around World Cancer Day, please share it anyway. The map is a platform and a great opportunity to show the world all the great work our community is doing to reduce the global cancer burden.
