World Cancer Day Seminar

 We recently hosted an inspiring and impactful World Cancer Day Seminar that brought together leading voices in the fight against cancer in South Africa.Our lineup of expert speakers included representatives from the National Cancer Registry of South Africa (NCR), dedicated Cancer Advocates, respected Academics, Epidemiologists, and — most powerfully — a courageous cancer survivor who shared her personal journey. The discussions covered vital ground:

• A comprehensive overview of the NCR and its crucial role in tracking cancer across the country
• The current burden of cancer in South Africa — highlighting the scale of the challenge we face as a nation
• The latest updates on childhood cancer, where early detection and awareness remain key to improving outcomes
• Progress on population-based cancer registries nationwide, with exciting advancements in places like Ekurhuleni and KwaZulu-Natal helping to build more accurate, comprehensive data for better planning and interventions
• And a deeply moving testimony from our cancer survivor, reminding everyone of the human stories behind the statistics

The event drew a diverse audience of departmental employees and professionals from across the health sector — all united in purpose. We paused for a heartfelt moment of remembrance, honouring:

• Those diagnosed with cancer
• Individuals living with cancer every day
• Affected families who walk this journey alongside their loved ones
• Those in remission, celebrating resilience and hope
• And the tireless health workers dedicated to cancer care

Because in the face of this disease, we are truly united by our unique strength — compassion, determination, and the shared belief that together, we can make a real difference. Seminars like these remind us why awareness, data-driven action, and human connection matter so much in the ongoing battle against cancer in South Africa.
