Technical Fellowships in cancer prevention and early detection awarded to 21 recipients
UICC is pleased to announce the selection of 21 outstanding individuals who have been awarded Technical Fellowships with a focus on cancer prevention and early detection in low- and middle-income countries.

The new Fellows will engage in collaborative projects with host institutions in Cameroon, Kenya, Namibia, Ivory Coast, France, Burundi, Qatar, and the United States.
Among the awarded fellowships, more than half are concentrated on breast and cervical cancer, with 48% of Fellows expressing a primary interest in public health.
“I am thrilled about my selection for a UICC Technical Fellowship. It is a rare privilege for me as an early career researcher, having the opportunity to learn from experts at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and contribute to cervical cancer elimination through efficient data management.”
- Dr. Qudus O. Lawal, recipient from Nigeria
In a departure from previous years, this year's Technical Fellowships call specifically targeted cancer professionals working in cancer prevention and early detection in low- and middle-income countries.
“We are proud that our Fellowships attracted such great interest. It was a challenging process to select the awardees from such a pool of 74 dedicated applicants committed to cancer prevention across Africa, Asia Pacific, Eastern Mediterranean, and Latin America.”
- Sally Donaldson, Fellowships Manager
The announcement of the Technical Fellowships is overshadowed by the terrible news of the death of Dr Ayah Firwana, one of the esteemed recipients who was reported killed in Gaza on 15 October alongside 15 other family members.
UICC is extremely saddened by the death of Dr Ayah Firwana and extends deepest condolences to everyone who knew Ayah.
