From care gaps to global action: UICC’s Annual Report 2024

Uniting over 1,150 member organisations worldwide, UICC’s 2024 Annual Report showcases a year of global collaboration, policy leadership, and action to improve access to cancer services worldwide.

UICC is please to announce the release of its Annual Report for 2024. This comprehensive document details the initiatives, partnerships, advocacy efforts, and other actions taken by UICC, its members, and partners to reduce the global cancer burden.

“Throughout the year, we have worked alongside our members to push for policies that expand access to cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. We have strengthened global partnerships, driving forward initiatives in essential medicines, tobacco control, and antimicrobial resistance."
– Ulrika Årehed Kågström, President, UICC

UICC welcomed 45 new member organisations from 30 countries in 2024, bringing the total to 1,154 member organisations across 174 countries and territories.

Among the year's achievements, UICC provided nearly USD 850,000 in targeted funding and technical assistance to support individuals and organisations addressing key gaps in cancer control.

The World Cancer Congress in Geneva in September drew some 2,000 participants from 122 countries, acting as a catalyst for new partnerships and programme announcements.

World Cancer Day 2024 marked the final year of UICC’s three-year 'Close the Care Gap' campaign, which culminated in more than 900 events globally, 750 million social media impressions, and over 27,000 media mentions in 159 countries. Also for the first time, UICC joined the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) when it released its global cancer statistics, underlining the urgency of strengthening cancer care in low- and middle-income countries.

The Access to Oncology Medicines (ATOM) Coalition expanded its membership to 49 partners, advancing its mission to improve access to affordable cancer medicines in low- and lower middle-income countries.

“I would like to start by thanking the UICC team for their energy, commitment and ambition in 2024 to serve the UICC members around the world. I also wish to thank our members and partners who contribute to the mission activities we undertake on behalf of everyone in our community. As a non-government organisation based in Geneva, one of our key responsibilities is to be part of and influence the global health capital of the world. I am delighted to say that we enjoy positive and synergistic relationships with many Geneva-based health organisations and our UN Agency colleagues... Together they set out a challenging agenda and represented the UICC membership with great professionalism at all times."
– Cary Adams, CEO of UICC
