The Canadian Association of Provincial Cancer Agencies (CAPCA) is a collaborative organisation that brings together provincial cancer agencies across Canada to advance cancer control efforts nationwide. Originating in the early 1980s as an informal alliance among western provinces, CAPCA was established to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, address common challenges, and improve cancer care delivery. Over time, its membership grew to include all provinces, and in 1999, it was formally incorporated.
CAPCA plays a pivotal role in shaping national cancer strategies, fostering innovation, and supporting research initiatives. It has contributed significantly to the development of shared clinical guidelines, data standards, and infrastructure such as the Canadian Tumour Repository. Through its coordinated efforts, CAPCA enhances the quality, consistency, and efficiency of cancer services across Canada, ensuring that patients benefit from evidence-based care regardless of where they live.
The organisation continues to serve as a vital platform for collaboration, policy development, and strategic planning in the fight against cancer.
