2017 World Cancer Leaders' Summit
‘Cities driving change'
13-15 November | Mexico City, Mexico

The 2017 World Cancer Leaders' Summit has been themed 'Cities driving change', and builds on the achievements of the 2016 Summit in Paris which successfully called on 300 leaders and the global cancer community to work together to support the adoption of a cancer resolution by Member States at the 2017 World Health Assembly.

The event will take place on 13-15 November in Mexico City, and will be hosted by the National Cancer Institute of Mexico (INCAn).

This year's Summit will extend its call to action to city leaders, focussing on the key measures and building blocks that will help accelerate the implementation of quality cancer services in major conurbations, meet the needs of the local citizens, and ultimately save more lives. The theme of this year’s Summit 'Cities driving change' will focus on the leading role cities can play in improving access to the quality cancer services for their people. UICC's initiative 'C/Can 2025: City Cancer Challenge' will feature prominently throughout the event.

Cancer and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs) enjoy an unprecedented global profile, yet of the 4 billion people living in cities today, few of them have access to high-quality cancer treatment outside of high-income countries. The Summit will give the opportunity to health leaders to hear and give their perspectives on how the global cancer community can partner with cities to support them in translating global commitments such as the 2025 NCD targets and SDGs 3 and 11, into to local impact.

Some of the participating guests will include Heads of States and Health Ministers from the region, First Ladies, members of royal families, UICC Board of Directors, CEOs of the world’s leading cancer societies and federations, leaders in UN agencies, private sector executives, city leaders and other key players. The Summit’s interactive agenda aims to engage the audience through inspiring keynote addresses, city leaders and ministerial panel discussions as well as interviews presenting successful city initiatives.

The Summit is by invitation only and its attendance is mainly open to UICC Members and partners among the global health and cancer leadership community. For more information, please contact wcls@uicc.org
