Best CEO of UICC member organisation Award

Launched in 2018 and held every other year in connection with the UICC General Assembly, this Award recognises and celebrates leadership and expertise in managing a cancer control organisation from across the UICC membership.

Nominations for the 2022 Award are open between 17 March and 13 May 2022. The winner will be announced at the 2022 UICC General Assembly which will be held virtually in October.

Nominations are now closed.

Entry criteria

Candidates must:

  • Be from a UICC member organisation
  • Be, at the time of nomination, the most senior executive or administrator in charge of managing the organisation and who is responsible for developing and executing the organisation's long term strategy and managing the overall operations and resources on a daily basis (whether the title is CEO, or Managing Director, Secretary General, Director General, or else)
  • Have been in post since at least 1 January 2020
  • Be nominated by their own organisation

Selection criteria

Eligible candidates will be assessed in the following five areas, with a particular focus on leadership in times of crisis over the past two years:

  • Resilience and drive: great CEOs are able to bounce back and push forward, are open to learning from failures and will work to turn unanticipated situations into positive results
  • Collaborative approach: great CEOs know that a key enabler for success is collaboration, they believe in building strong networks and know how to forge mutually-beneficial relationships across industries and sectors
  • Innovation and creativity: great CEOs are able to show original and creative approaches in the way they set the strategy of the organisation and deploy its resources to maximise impact
  • Impact: great CEOs can demonstrate concrete impact, whether on the sustainability of the organisation, or for the benefit of the communities they serve
  • Passion and inspiration for others: great CEOs distinguish themselves through their dedication to the cause and their ability to inspire others to take action

Process

All eligible applications will be ranked internally by UICC against the selection criteria leading to a shortlist of three, which will be publicly announced in July.

A judging panel made up of UICC senior staff, Board members and external experts will then carry out short interviews with each of the shortlisted applicants to select the Award winner. This will then be announced during the UICC's General Assembly taking place virtually in October.
