Observing World Diabetes Day

14 November 2012

Header Paragraph

Diabetes affects millions of people worldwide, and shares a number of common modifiable risk factors with cancer, including alcohol abuse, physical inactivity and unhealthy diet.

World Diabetes Day is observed every year on November 14. Led by the International Diabetes Federation and World Health Organization, World Diabetes Day engages millions of people worldwide in diabetes advocacy and awareness.

In 2009, UICC joined forces with the International Diabetes Federation, World Heart Federation and International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease to form the NCD Alliance – representing the four main non-communicable diseases – with the aim of combating the NCD epidemic by putting health at the centre of all policies.  For more information about the NCD Alliance, please visit their website here.

Diabetes Education and Prevention is the World Diabetes Day theme for the period 2009-2013.  For more information about World Diabetes Day please visit their website here.
