The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) is the largest global membership organisation dedicated to taking action against cancer. Founded in 1933 and based in Geneva, UICC has over 1,200 member organisations in 172 countries and territories. UICC is a founding member of the NCD Alliance, the McCabe Centre for Law & Cancer, the International Cancer Control Partnership (ICCP) and established the City Cancer Challenge Foundation in January 2019 and the Access to Oncology Medicines (ATOM) Coalition in May 2022.

Summary: UICC events

Premier events like the World Cancer Congress (WCC) and World Cancer Leader’s Summit (WCLS) are an essential part of UICC’s work. The World Cancer Congress is a biennial event that brings together cancer control professionals from around the world to share knowledge, best practices and innovative solutions for cancer prevention, treatment and care. The World Cancer Leaders’ Summit is an invitation only event for key decision makers and leaders designed for strategic discussions at the highest level.

Summary of the position

The Congress and Events Manager reports to the Head of Congress and Events and coordinates the programme delivery of the WCC, the WCLS and of other UICC events. The ideal candidate for the role should be an excellent team player with strong communication and organisational skills.

Main responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the programme components (digital and in-person) of UICC's key events, including their design, format and scheduling

  • Coordinate the different Programme Committees (support them in their roles, guide them on processes and tools etc.

  • Coordinate the participation of speakers and presenters (provide updates about the session planning, share support materials etc.)  

  • Work with the communications team to coordinate the implementation of the respective marketing and communications plans

  • Coordinate the team’s content creation efforts to help ensure consistent and effective communication about the events across all platforms e.g. the World Cancer Congress website and other online channels

  • Liaise and coordinate with UICC teams to ensure that priority focus areas are reflected in the programme

  • Work with other teams to ensure that the events are leveraged to promote UICC’s strategic priorities

  • Support other UICC teams and events (eg regional meetings)

Skills and competencies 

  • Advanced university degree in hotel/event management, international relations, marketing or any other relevant field

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in events, preferably in the not-for-profit or health sector

  • Understanding of how events benefit and impact a membership organisation

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering events virtually, face-to-face and/or hybrid, knowledge of different event platforms would be an asset

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to meet tight project deadlines

  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, and organisational skills

  • Strong oral, written and presentation skills

  • Proficiency in English, other languages would be an asset, especially French and/or Spanish

  • Computer literacy in word processing, data base management and page layout

  • The candidate should be eligible to work in Switzerland.
