12 March 2019

Today, on the occasion of the War on Cancer Middle East organised by The Economist Events team in Dubai, Friends of Cancer Patients UAE (FoCP UAE) and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) have signed a partnership agreement in support of UICC’s advocacy initiative ‘Treatment for All’. This initiative calls on the international cancer community to address the global equity gap in access to cancer services to reduce premature deaths.

As a UICC Vanguard partner, FoCP UAE becomes a key actor of Treatment for All and will contribute, along with the global network of members and partners, to the effective implementation of the 2017 cancer resolution, adopted by Member States at the World Health Assembly.

Her Excellency Mrs Sawsan Jafar, Chairman of Friends of Cancer Patients UAE said, “FoCP UAE is very proud to play a key role in advancing Treatment for All in the MENA region. This partnership will help civil societies around the world and we are honoured to be part of it.”

Besides contributing to the acceleration of the Treatment for All movement, FoCP UAE will support the global impact of UICC’s activities with a focus on cancer surveillance and registries, as well as UICC’s TNM project on cancer staging.

UICC’s President, HRH Princess Dina Mired of Jordan, said, "UICC is very appreciative of Friends of Cancer Patients’ support to our Treatment for All initiative, which will allow us to build knowledge and skills in the Middle East region for global impact. We also greatly thank Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi for all her leadership and commitment in the fight against cancer and NCDs."
