2019 World Cancer Leaders’ Summit – leaving no one behind

The 2019 World Cancer Leaders’ Summit – a high level policy meeting of global cancer leaders – will focus on how cancer detection, treatment and care can contribute to achieving Universal Health Coverage.

Header Paragraph

Starting 15th October 2019, around 350 global influencers and leaders in cancer control and public health from across governments, UN agencies, academia, non-profit organisations and private sectors will come together at the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan’s capital, to focus on Cancer and achieving the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

In a packed agenda to take place across three days, Universal Health Coverage will be a driving topic around critical issues, including:

  • expanding access to quality preventive, early detection, treatment and care for cancer
  • the urgency for strong, sustainable and ‘people-centred’ health systems to help deliver effective prevention and control of non-communicable diseases
  • promoting health equity in improving access to cancer services
  • the need for priority setting as part of the progressive realisation of UHC.

“The recent adoption of the Political Declaration on UHC at the September UN High Level Meeting is a great step forward. We applaud the member states who have committed to investing an additional 1% of their national GDP on health.  However, as the leaders of the cancer community, we will need to hold governments accountable to their commitment by ensuring swift action follows. The upcoming 2019 World Cancer Leaders’ Summit in Nur-Sultan provides us with the opportunity to set out our path to UHC and ensure no-one living with cancer is left behind.”
Dr Cary Adams, CEO, Union for International Cancer Control.
