National Cancer Center of China

As the national leading institution directly affiliated with the National Health Commission of China, the National Cancer Center undertakes overall national cancer control work: It assists authorities in drafting national cancer prevention strategies, formulating clinical guidelines, screening standards and quality control protocols for nationwide implementation. It has built a four-tier national-provincial-municipal-county cancer prevention network and established a national cancer registry system covering over 1.4 billion Chinese residents, releasing annual official cancer epidemiological reports regularly. It leads population-level primary prevention, large-scale health education campaigns, and long-term cohort studies on cancer risk factors to reduce carcinogen exposure nationwide. It administers national large-scale early cancer screening programs across all 31 provincial regions, promoting both organized population screening and hospital-based opportunistic screening for major prevalent cancers. It standardizes cancer diagnosis and treatment nationwide via a national tumor quality control system, accelerates clinical translational research, and improves national cancer survival rates continuously. It conducts cutting-edge oncology research, and engages extensively in international exchanges and cooperation with WHO, IARC, overseas cancer centers and regional alliances to share China’s cancer control experience globally.
