"The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) unites and supports the cancer community to reduce the global cancer burden, to promote greater equity, and to ensure that cancer control continues to be a priority in the world health and development agenda."
At SIMMON we work mainly on three areas of influence:
1. Patient education, empowerment and assistance. Educational group events for patients, relatives and caregivers on psychology, nutrition, nursery, rights, health system navigation and general wellness. This is complemented by social support activities such as training for self employment, nutritional aid and access to wigs.
2. Awareness campaigns on cancer prevention and health promotion aimed at the general public. Also, educational events for healthcare professionals and social workers in the first level of attention to encourage early cancer detection and a more humane, patient-centered health service.
3. Advocacy actions and initiative, both individually and together with other patients' organizations to ensure citizens are granted, in paper and in reality, their right to health. We defend the cancer patients' right to access treatments with quality, opportunity, continuity and dignity.
