Virtual Dialogue: Cancer control and the UN High-Level Meeting on UHC

The second UN High-Level Meeting on UHC in September 2023 will provide an exciting opportunity for cancer advocates to engage with governments, highlight inequities and advocate for change.

Preparations have already begun for the second UN High-Level Meeting (HLM) on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) on 21 September. Over the course of the coming months, governments will work to negotiate a new political declaration on UHC setting out their commitments and priorities to increase UHC coverage. This provides civil society organisations and other stakeholders with an opportunity to advocate for improved service provision and financial protection.

In this Virtual Dialogue, the UICC team brought together advocates from around the world to explore:

  • What UN High-level meetings are and what it is likely to produce
  • What advocacy opportunities may come up and what we have learned from previous meetings
  • How advocates can get involved and use these discussions to support their work
