On the horizon: 2018 UN HLM

Following on from the achievements of the SDGs and the cancer resolution, all eyes have turned to preparations for the 2018 UN High-Level Meeting (HLM) on NCDs as the next key global milestone for cancer and NCD advocates. The 2018 HLM is the formal meeting of the UN where Heads of State will review progress they have made against the 2025 Global Monitoring Framework targets, since 2011. We also hope to hear national commitments to drive implementation of cancer services in the lead up to 2025.

This global review of progress offers an important opportunity for cancer advocates to work with governments, patients, healthcare workers and other civil society groups to push for Treatment for All. We will be working with UICC members and the NCD Alliance to help build a strong share of voice, so please check back regularly for updates on how you can get involved.

In the meantime...

Upcoming events include:

  • The WHO Global Conference on NCDs will be hosted in Montevideo, Uruguay from 18-20 October, 2017.
  • The World Cancer Leaders' Summit will be hosted in Mexico City, Mexico, 11-15 November, 2017.
  • The next Global NCD Forum in Sharjah, UAE from 9-11 December 2017, co-hosted by the NCD Alliance and Friends of Cancer Patients.
  • We expect the next UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs in summer or fall of 2018, TBC.
