UK - 5th Cervical Cancer Prevention Week Actions and Plans

  • Jo‟s Cervical Cancer Trust will announce in the press conference a new Helpline on the 24th January 2011, during Cervical Cancer Prevention Week (23-29th Jan). The helpline, available to patients, carers and friends, will be open Monday – Friday providing information and support on a range of topics including screening concerns, screening results, cervical abnormalities, cervical cancer, treatments and survivorship issues. The helpline will be run by trained volunteers who either personally or professionally have experience of cervical cancer or cervical abnormalities. Before joining the helpline team each volunteer has gone through a rigorous recruitment process and received structured training including communication skills, how to deal with difficult calls, understanding our medical information and the work of the Charity. The helpline will compliment the care patients are receiving from health professionals and we are very grateful to The British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) for supporting the costs to set up and promote the service.
  • A Cervical Cancer Prevention workshop will be organised at the Right Track training centre in Glasgow for girls aged between 16-19 years.
  • Regular cervical cancer prevention information sessions will be hold throughout Prevention Week at the Health Centre in Motherwell where information on cervical cancer prevention will be provided, the Pearl of Wisdom will be distributed and signatures for the STOP Cervical Cancer Petition will be collected.
