At the opening ceremony of the 8th Chinese Conference on Oncology in Jinan on September 12th, the Union for International Cancer Control signed an agreement to establish a new fellowship programme with the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA) in a joint effort to tackle the growing cancer crisis in China and around the world.

Both CACA and UICC share common goals and activities to promote international exchange, training courses and workshops to boost scientific, technological and medical personnel skills in the field of cancer control.

The program will offer Chinese cancer specialists the opportunity to build their own skills in the chosen field, receive hands-on experience, intellectual stimulation, research guidance and academic mentorship.

Each year, a group of cancer specialists, selected among top scientists from China, will have the opportunity to be trained from 3 - 12 months at centres of excellence around the globe, drawn from the UICC membership base.

“I am confident that UICC-CACA fellowship programme will prove innovative in its format and content and will demonstrate its great impact for the ultimate benefit of cancer patients,” says Cary Adams, UICC CEO.

This new collaboration is part of the Global Education and Training Initiative (GETI), one of the UICC core programmes.

“This collaboration will further enrich the GETI activities to tackle the growing cancer crisis in China which facing 3 million new cancer cases every year,” states Riccardo Lampariello, Head of GETI.

UICC fellowships have generated numerous joint scientific publications as well as international collaborations and networks. They have also advanced the careers of scientists: directors of international cancer organisations and even Nobel Prize winners. For more information about fellowship, please visit the website.
