One of UICC’s oldest members and patrons, The Swiss Cancer League have taken an active part in our global cancer community and activities since 1935.
More recently, as part of UICC's Champions Programme, they have been strong supporters of our advocacy work in the run-up to the UN High Level Meeting (HLM) on NCDs and the Global Access to Pain Relief Initiative (GAPRI), one of UICC’s key programmes. In 2010, they received the UICC Award for Excellence in Global Cancer Control.
It was a true pleasure to host Kathrin and have the opportunity to discuss further collaboration between the two organisations.
We look forward to continuing our long lasting relationship!
About The Swiss Cancer League
The Swiss Cancer League is a national, charitable, private organisation, founded in 1910 and headquartered in Bern. It attends to all aspects of cancer, with the aim of ensuring that fewer people develop cancer and more people can be treated successfully.
The organisation supports innovative cancer research projects, increases public awareness of prevention measures and is committed to early diagnosis and treatment. One of its first concerns is to ensure high-quality advice and psychosocial support for patients and their relatives. The Swiss Cancer League also supports other cancer control organisations in low income countries.
Recently, under Oncosuisse guidance and on behalf of “Dialog Nationale Gesundheitspolitik”, the Swiss Cancer League worked out a National Strategy Against Cancer and the policy related to the implementation of a comprehensive National Cancer Programme 2011–2015 (Full Programme in French or German - Abriged version in English). Both, the strategy and the programme, are focused on three fundamentals: coordination and cooperation, integrated care and the best possible quality and equality of opportunity.
