"Simply Check" Campaign for Detecting Breast Cancer
The Breast Cancer Foundation of Egypt (BCFE) launched "Simply Check" campaign which provides a lot of free activities for Egyptian women.
Dr. Mohamed Shaalan, BCFE Chairman, said that the aim of this campaign is to change Egyptian culture towards the breast cancer disease. The campaign also targets the misconceptions in the communities a lot of women repeat such as: "the ugly disease", "no one will want to marry my daughters" or "leave the door shut, I'd rather die without knowing".
Dr . Shaalan says that these concepts are the main obstacle facing the efforts to raise awareness on how to maintain breast health. Therefore, BCFE is providing free mammograms for women above 40 and workshops on how to do self-examinations at its office.
BCFE advises women at the age of 20 and above to practice breast self-examination which helps detecting of 45% of breast tumors.
He also advises Egyptian women to make healthy choices that protect them from the risk of the breast cancer, including:
• Maintaining a healthy weight
• Adding daily exercise to lifestyle
• Limiting alcohol intake
• Limiting the use of postmenopausal hormones
• Breastfeeding, if possible
All women who want a mammogram or want to learn about breast self-examinations can call BCFE at 19417, from 9am - 3pm, daily except Friday and Saturday.
